Spending on advertisements!

Now, my hunch is that the US will be the largest spender when it comes to advertising, but beyond spending the sickening aspect of this advertising is seen in the Wells Fargo advertisement on so-called 'cash back' which shows a black school teacher (wondering why I had to identify the race of the teacher? answer follows) who has to buy supplies on her own for her class and can supposedly benefit from using a wells fargo card, to get cash back on money that she is not supposed to spend!

How sickening is the situation, that in a nation wherein teachers do not earn much (and also earn the wrath of the people for 'unionizing'!) are normalized to spend their own money, to meet class room expenses, and the corporate world spends a lot of money on advertizing, telling them to spend eve more!....as for the 'black school teacher' in the ad...it is even more deplorable that the minorities, who are under served (or not served at all sometimes) in school districts where they are a majority, are asked to make the sacrifice to educate the children!

PS: Can't find a copy of the ad online yet, but will post it when I find a copy of it!

Prisons & Prisoners

I think that this should have been the first post of my blog, considering that US - 'the land of the free and the home of the brave' starts looking more like the Home of the Free, Land of the Incarcerated! Considering that 1 in 100 US adults are behind bars, one can only wonder the state of the US society, keeping in mind Fyodor Dostoevsky's quote, "The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons!"

It needs to be explored whether the 'excess'  number of laws and regulations, also contributes to such incarceration rates in the US?

This post comes on the heels of the execution of Troy Davis, who was executed last night in Georgia, which also exhibits an unusual pathology of the system, which doesn't show the same fight in 'fighting' injustices in other spheres! Since the financial collapse in 2008, which has caused such damage to the whole system, not one person seems to have been convicted (I need to check on this fact!) and held accountable in any manner!
